A handful of African national teams took part in international friendly matches on Thursday and early Friday before an action-packed day. Two teams set to take part at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar opened up their international break but it was not an ideal start for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon who fell 2-0 to Uzbekistan in Goyang, South Korea. The Uzbek side proved to be difficult competition from the start and took the lead in the 24th minute when AS Roma forward Eldor Shomurodov crossed for Khojimat Erkinov to finish past Cameroon goalkeeper AndrĂ© Onana from close range. Oston Urunov doubled Uzbekistan’s lead in the second half to confirm a disappointing result for a Cameroonian team that featured many starters and the debut of Brentford FC forward Bryan Mbeumo.
On Thursday the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia defeated Comoros 1-0 in a match that saw several opportunities for both sides. Close to the hour mark it was Kuwait-based striker Taha Khenissi who provided the game’s lone goal with an excellent header from a cross. With Tunisia continuing to search for a reliable striker the former EspĂ©rance marksman is maintaining steady form at the right time. In the other match featuring African teams it was a 1-1 draw between Sudan and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. The hosts scored in the first half before Sudan leveled soon after the hour mark.
