The morale of Nigerian national team fans is at quite a low point following yet another underachieving showing from the Super Eagles in their 0-0 draw against Cameroon on Tuesday. Captain Ahmed Musa indicated that the team would be motivated to avenge the 1-0 defeat suffered to the Indomitable Lions last Saturday, but Nigeria failed to generate a single shot on target while the Cameroonians appeared much more likely to score.
To be fair, neither team looked particularly threatening on the day. In fact, outside of Alex Iwobi’s goal line clearance in the 11th minute, there was hardly an opportunity of note in the opening 30 minutes of the match. It wasn’t until the final ten minutes of the first half that some threat to either goal was generated. Right at the end of a half a rebound was put home by Cameroon from close range only to be ruled out by offside. The second half was also a largely unexciting affair with Nigeria showing a bit more impetus but lacking any sort of cohesion to threaten the Cameroonians.
