An interesting final matchup will take place in the Ghana FA Cup after Bechem United defeated Aduana Stars 2-0 to move into the final where they will take on Accra Hearts of Oak for a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. Emmanuel Avornyo and star forward Augustine Okrah fired the Hunters into the final with goals in the opening thirty minutes to continue an excellent season that has seen them maintain the second position in the Ghana Premier League for a long stretch.
Avornyo’s goal had a bit of fortune about it created by a willingness to take a risk. In the 16th minute Okrah made a penetrating run and laid the ball to the forward on the left wing, who slowly cut inside and waited for an opportunity to shoot before sending a low effort that took a difference making deflection off Nurudeen Abdullai before sneaking just inside the near post.
Aduana nearly equalized in the 23rd minute when Bright Adjei picked out Emmanuel Gyamfi with a lofted pass but the forward sent his finish skyward and over the Bechem goal. They would pay for it only two minutes later when a highlight reel goal from Okrah put Bechem beyond reach. The attacker has scored thirteen goals in Ghana Premier League play this season but his 35 yard free kick was the pick of the lot as he sent an absolute rocket that hit the crossbar before coming back off goalkeeper Joseph Addo and into the net.
Highlights from Bechem’s win are below. The final between Bechem United and Hearts of Oak is scheduled for June 26 in Kumasi.
