Ghana MTN FA Cup update: Hearts of Oak remain in contention for domestic double, Kotoko out on penalties and Medeama clinch CAFCC spot

Ghana’s domestic cup competition, the MTN FA Cup, is now down to the final four after a weekend full of drama. Hearts of Oak took care of business with a 1-0 victory over Elmina Sharks and a historic domestic double remains very much a possibility after Sunday saw the Phobians’ rivals, Asante Kotoko, eliminated by Berekum Chelsea on penalty kicks. Meanwhile, the remaining two lower tier sides were eliminated by Ghana Premier League teams Ashanti Gold and Medeama SC to round out the remaining semifinal contenders.

Due to being the highest ranked team remaining that submitted an application for CAF competition next season, Medeama will join Asante Kotoko in the 2021-22 CAF Confederation Cup while Hearts of Oak will take up Ghana’s slot in the CAF Champions League for their Ghana Premier League conquest. Medeama defeated a scrappy third tier Attram de Visser side to seal their semifinal spot and Ashanti Gold defeated another third level team, Kintempo Top Talents, to book their spot.

Highlights are below from three of the four quarterfinal matches as well as links to the latest news regarding the competition.

Elmina Sharks 0-1 Hearts of Oak

Asante Kotoko 0-0 Berekum Chelsea (Berekum Chelsea advance 5-4 on PK’s)
