Aduana FC’s lead in the Ghana Premier League is down to two points with the rest of the field closing in on the Bono Region club who continue to look reluctant in clinching their first top division title since 2017. Aduana were held to a 0-0 draw at home by relegation battlers Karela United with the visitors surviving an early onslaught of opportunities from hosts Aduana, who could not find a way past Karela goalkeeper Abdul Ganiu on the day.
The motto of Medeama SC displayed on the club’s crest is “Never Give Up” and the side from the Western Region continued their push towards the top over the weekend. Medeama defeated fellow title contenders Bechem United by a 2-1 score at home venue TNA Park to leap past the Hunters into second place, two points behind Aduana. First half goals from Jonathan Sowah and Vincent Atingah gave the Mauve and Yellow a large enough lead to hold off a late charge from Bechem who are now four points back in third place.
As for Ghanaian power clubs Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, poor 2022-23 campaigns for both teams continued over the weekend. Hearts fell to a 3-2 defeat at top tier newcomers Samartex who have done brilliantly in their debut Premier League campaign to compete in the top half of the table. Kotoko could only manage a 1-1 draw at home against Bibiani Gold Stars and any slim title hopes for both the Porcupine Warriors and Hearts continue to decrease with four matches left to play.
