After a long period where the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League was led by Aduana FC, the Brong-Ahafo club have slipped up at a crucial moment and now the title is Medeama SC’s to lose following the 32nd matchday over the weekend. Medeama defeated relegation candidates King Faisal by a 2-1 score on Friday, coming back from a goal down to defeat the Kumasi side. After Samuel Kusi opened the scoring for King Faisal, Nurudeen Abdulai and Joshua Agyemang scored to lead the comeback for the Mauve and Yellow who lead Aduana by four points with two matches remaining. A victory at Samartex next weekend will confirm Medeama’s first ever Premier League title.
The results went the way of Medeama elsewhere to leave them on the verge. Aduana fell by a 1-0 score to Dreams FC and have failed to win in their last four matches while Bechem United continued to struggle away from home. Bechem took the lead through star forward Hafiz Konkoni in the first half but Real Tamale scored twice in the final ten minutes to claim maximum points and take a step close to securing their Premier League status for next season. Bechem are five points back of Medeama and a nine-match winless streak away from home leaves the Hunters unlikely to reach the summit.
Hearts of Oak’s rough 2022-23 campaign continued with a 1-0 defeat to fellow Accra club Legon Cities. Kofi Kordzi, a former Hearts striker, scored the game’s only goal for Legon Cities who are now on the verge of escaping relegation following the result. Asante Kotoko will face Karela United in Monday’s only match.
