Asante Kotoko moved up at the expense of Accra Great Olympics to take another turn as the leader of the Ghana Premier League after their 2-0 home win against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors now lead by one point at the top of the table after Great Olympics were taken down by Legon Cities, also by a 2-0 scoreline.
Only a month after signing from UniStar Soccer Academy, 22-year-old Andy Kumi is showing he can provide a much needed source of goals up top for Kotoko, and his first-half goal was just what the hosts needed. In the 29th minute Augustine Okrah received a long ball in space on the left flank and put in a good cross for Kumi to direct home. Berekum Chelsea were a capable opponent but couldn’t find the equalizer against a Kotoko defense that remains difficult to break down.
