Two players representing national teams from West Africa were at the forefront of the goal contributions of African players in England’s top two divisions over the weekend. Wilfried Zaha has been in sublime form to start the 2022-23 season for Crystal Palace and the English-born Ivory Coast national team attacker provided an excellent finish before completing his brace with the winning goal in Palace’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa. In the second tier EFL Championship it was French-born Senegalese forward Iliman Ndiaye who starred for Sheffield United, coming on as a substitute to score a fortunate first goal and then finishing off the Blades’ victory with a class strike.
