Hearts of Oak are officially crowned champions of Ghana Premier League following loss to WAFA

2020-21 Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak finished up their season on Saturday and had their ceremony to celebrate the occasion following a 0-1 defeat to West African Football Academy (WAFA). Featuring several reserves in their squad for a match that was a dead rubber for Hearts, the Phobians were dominated by hosts WAFA and had to fend off multiple attacks that nearly resulted in goals throughout the first half. Making his first appearance in over two months, backup goalkeeper Ben Mensah did well to keep out WAFA in the opening period.

Hearts showed a bit more in the second half but WAFA were able to get the winning goal in the 64th minute. Togolese international player Atte Youssifou curled in a brilliant free kick that snuck by Mensah to put the hosts up and WAFA did not relinquish the lead, moving up to and clinching third place with the result.

Video highlights are below of the match first and then followed by the coronation ceremony for Hearts, whose spirit was not dampened by the defeat as they celebrated the club’s first title in twelve years.
