Hearts of Oak suffer first defeat under coach Samuel Boadu

Hearts of Oak suffered a crushing 1-0 defeat to Ashanti Gold on Saturday to put an end to a six-match unbeaten run for the capital-based club. The result keeps the Phobians from maintaining their push to the top of the Ghana Premier League table as they remain in fourth place. Neither team generated too many opportunities in a hard fought game and two notable penalty incidents decided the outcome.

A first-half foul in the AshGold penalty area created the first notable incident and a spot-kick opportunity for Hearts. However, Victor Aidoo put his effort right at AshGold keeper Kofi Mensah who did well to hold on and prevent a rebound. The error was costly when the hosts had their own opportunity from the spot in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. A cross bounced up into a Hearts defender’s hand and Amos Addai just squeezed his penalty past Ben Mensah for the win.
