Kagame Interclub Cup semifinals set after completion of group stage

CECAFA’s regional club competition, the Kagame Interclub Cup, wrapped up the group stage of the eight-team competition on Saturday in Tanzania to determine the semifinalists who will contest the knockout stage of the tournament. Group A saw Malawi’s Big Bullets and Express FC of Uganda as the teams advancing with Express FC emerging as group winners following their 3-1 victory over host team Young Africans. Godfrey Lwesibawa and Eric Kambale, both players who reached double figures in scoring for Express in their Uganda Premier League title run, were among the scorers as Express jumped out to a three-goal lead to make it two wins and a draw from their three group stage games.

Azam FC had little to worry about on the final day with two wins from their first two Group B matches, and 2019 Zanzibar Premier League champions KMKM FC took advantage of the relaxed host side to win the last day clash between the teams. The 3-2 victory put KMKM just ahead of club Le Messager Ngozi on goals scored to edge the Burundian club for second place, who defeated KCCA FC of Uganda 1-0 but could not find another goal to get them into the semifinals.

Express FC will meet KMKM on Tuesday in the first semifinal while Azam FC face Big Bullets on Wednesday to determine who will contest the final on next weekend. Video of the goals from all four of Saturday’s matches are below.

Big Bullets 2-0 Atlabara

Young Africans 1-3 Express FC

Azam 2-3 KMKM

KCCA FC 0-1 Le Messager Ngozi
