Kenya and Zimbabwe were included in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying draw on the hopes that they would be able to reverse their bans from FIFA, but both nations have been removed from the qualifying competition following confirmations of their bans this week. Kenya had to have their ban resolved two weeks before their first scheduled fixture against Cameroon on May 4 but the deadline passed without resolution. As a result Group C of qualifying will be composed of just Cameroon, Namibia and Burundi with the top two teams qualifying for the final competition in Ivory Coast.
Zimbabwe has also had their ban confirmed and their departure creates another three team group. The Warriors were in Group K along with South Africa, Morocco and Liberia but now that group is down to three teams with the top two sides advancing to Ivory Coast.
