L1 : L’Espérance de Tunis tout droit vers le titre, l’Etoile du Sahel tombe à Monastir

Tunisia’s current representatives in CAF competition returned to league action on Wednesday and Ligue 1 Professionnelle leaders Espérance further extended their lead. A 1-3 road victory at US Tataouine came without too much trouble from the hosts. 29-year-old striker Taha Khenissi’s role in the CAF Champions League has been limited for EST this season, but he continued his consistent scoring form in league play with a poacher’s effort to start the scoring in the 26th minute. EST added to their lead in the 57th minute, Hamdou Elhouni providing the insurance in the 70th soon after UST cut the deficit in half.

The two CAF Confederation Cup participants, however, did not fare as well. Étoile du Sahel got off to a dream start on the road but conceded three unanswered to lose 1-3 at Monastir. In a meeting between two teams in differing form, the hosts snapped a four-match losing streak while the loss for Étoile was their first in a month. CS Sfaxien failed to maintain their momentum from coming back to draw Étoile in CAFCC play, slumping to a scoreless draw at home against Olympique Beja.
