Tusker FC’s excellent league campaign continued with a comeback home victory against recent Kenyan domestic cup champions Gor Mahia, winning 2-1 thanks to a late goal to boost their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table to four points. While Gor have clinched a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, their faint hopes of capturing a league title continue to fade away as they now trail Tusker by eleven points.
Gor got off to an excellent start by opening the scoring before 15 minutes were up. Kenneth Muguna’s free kick from out wide was whipped in with pace and South Sudan international Tito Okello flicked the service on and inside the far post for his fifth goal of the season. The hosts Tusker then pushed furiously for an equalizer but could not find the finishing touch before halftime came.
After the break the Brewers finally found their scoring boots and their sustained pressure led to an equalizer in the 56th minute. A free kick was awarded just outside the Gor Mahia penalty area and Boniface Muchiri delivered a well taken shot from the set piece to level the proceedings. In the final minute of regular time defender Eugene Asike rose up to meet a corner kick and sent a bouncing header into the goal to win the match for Tusker and maintain their distance from Kenya Commercial Bank at the top.
Highlights of the match are below and the second video has Asike’s late winning goal.
