The fallout and bad news continues for the Porcupine Warriors of Asante Kotoko as suspensions and fines were announced to sanction captain Emmanuel Gyamfi and manager Mariano Barreto. Gyamfi received a two-match ban and fine for stamping on an opponent during Kotoko’s victory at Inter Allies while Barreto received a similar punishment for statements regarding the refereeing in a match against Legon Cities. In addition, Barreto announced that he will be departing the club at the end of the season after the final two matches of the Ghana Premier League season are played.
In the midst of the chaos surrounding the club, a match was played in Ghana’s domestic cup on Tuesday as Kotoko defeated second tier side Asokwa Deportivo 2-1. Attacking midfielder/forward Fabio Gama opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after a Kotoko attacker was pushed over in the box. At the end of the 37th minute Ibrahim Imoro dispossessed an Asokwa Deportivo defender and advanced on goal before cutting across for Evans Adomako to apply an easy finish. The lower division side got one back after the halftime break but Kotoko held on to at least grab a positive result on the field this week. Highlights of the match are below the news links.
