Al Ahly Benghazi had yet to meet any team that could equal them in the Libya Premier League through 16 matches, but The Reds suffered their first loss of the league season on Thursday following a superb comeback by Al Akhdar to win 2-1. It looked like it was going to be another Ahly victory when Nigerian forward Ndifreke Effiong sent an excellent finish into the roof of the Al Akhdar net a few minutes after halftime. However, Abdel Rahman Al-Amami equalized with a beautifully crafted free kick in the 75th minute and then Younes Al-Hegazy won the match in the 6th minute of stoppage time with a dramatic late headed goal from a corner kick.
Akhdar move into third place with the shock victory and are within range of moving into the top two spots in Group 1, which would secure a spot in the final four-team playoff in the Libya Premier League, which is divided into two groups of 12 teams each in the first stage. Highlights of the goals are below.
