Four days after playing to a scrappy and hard fought draw against hated rivals Young Africans, Simba had to face another close rival in the form of Azam FC who ended up being better on the day in a 1-0 NBC Premier League victory on Thursday. Zimbabwe national team striker Prince Dube produced a moment of magic, curling home a 35th minute strike to make the difference for the Ice Cream Makers who move level with Simba on fourteen points in third place on the league table.
The defeat for Simba will be extra painful considering that Young Africans took care of business on Wednesday in a 1-0 victory over Kinondoni MC. Similar to their rivals it was a bit of a sluggish performance from Yanga but the hosts were able to find a late winner with Feisal Salum reacting quickest in the 79th minute to smash his shot into the top of the net following a penalty box scramble. Yanga are two points clear of Mtibwa Sugar and three points ahead of four teams including Simba and Azam.
