Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara: Simba forced to settle for draw in Singida

Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara newcomers Singida Big Stars continue to prove that they plan to stay in the top division and claimed another excellent result on Wednesday, drawing heavyweights Simba SC 1-1 at home. Deus Kaseke opened the scoring for the hosts by turning in a cross from Said Ndemla on eleven minutes and Simba failed to convert several opportunities, a requirement when attempting to earn maximum points away from home. However, Singida goalkeeper Metacha Mnata handed the visitors a gift in the 59th minute by letting Simba midfielder Peter Banda’s cross attempt sneak by for the leveler.

The Ice Cream Makers of Azam FC took advantage of Simba’s misfortune to gain ground on their fellow Dar es Salaam club by scoring a late winner in their 2-1 home victory over Dodoma Jiji. The club from the capital appeared to have earned a point on the road after Ghanaian Collins Opare’s first half leveler cancelled out the opening goal scored by Azam’s Ismail Kada. Idris Mbombo had other ideas with the Congolese forward producing the winning goal in second half stoppage time, scoring from the penalty spot after substitute Tepsie Evans was taken down in the penalty area.

Extended highlights from both of Wednesday’s matches are below. Azam are level at the top of the table with Young Africans on twenty points from ten matches with Yanga playing two less matches. Simba are two points back with eighteen points from nine games.
