Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle played out its sixth round of matches over the weekend and despite playing less matches than their competition, CR Belouizdad continue to show their quality with a fourth win in as many matches on Sunday. CRB returned to Algiers victorious following a trip to Algeria’s western border in Béchar where Le Chabab defeated JS Saoura 1-0 at the Stade du 20 Août 1955. Winners of the last three Algerian championships, CRB boosted their squad with new foreign signings such as Nigerian forward Anayo Iwuala and Cameroonian forward Leonel Wamba, who provided the winning goal with an excellent header in the 69th minute.
CS Constantine are two points ahead of CRB with fourteen points from six matches but the lead appears to be temporary for the Smurfs after a 0-0 draw at 2021-22 CAF Champions League semifinalists ES Sétif on Sunday. Sétif were unfortunate to not grab the full three points but CSC had their stubborn defense and veteran goalkeeper Chamseddine Rahmani to thank for the point.
Former Raja Casablanca manager Faouzi Benzarti enjoyed a winning debut at MC Alger with a 2-1 result at home against ASO Chlef courtesy of goals from former CRB forward Khaireddine Merzougui and Chouaib Debbih. Another struggling club, JS Kabylie, earned their first league win of the season by defeating HB Chelghoum Laïd and MC Oran also entered the winning column with a 1-0 shutout of third-placed USM Alger.
