The biggest rivalry match in Congolese football took place at a crucial time with both TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club grappling for the top spot in the Linafoot with the season’s conclusion approaching, with Mazembe earning a crucial 3-1 victory by the final whistle. Mazembe move back into first place and now possess a two-point lead, Vita Club now sitting behind but still with one less match played.
It was a total nightmare of an outing for Vita Club as the road side’s poor defense was responsible for two goals in the first half to give the Ravens of Mazembe an insurmountable lead. In the 7th minute an attack for Mazembe appeared to be at an end, but a hasty clearance from the Vita Club defense rebounded off Pascal Mbarga and into his own net for a humiliating own goal. Poor set piece defending resulted in Mazembe’s Adam Bossu heading home a corner-kick that the Vita Club defender on the line failed to successfully defend.
Vita Club’s defense was once again caught in a bad moment for Mazembe’s third in the 49th minute. Bossu easily intercepted a poor pass out of the back and surged between ASVC’s central defenders before placing his shot just inside goalkeeper Simon Omossola’s far post to complete his brace.
