Chilean playmaker Marcelo Allende’s transfer to DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns was confirmed by Uruguayan club Montevideo City Torque on Monday evening. The 23-year-old arrives on a big money move from the Uruguayan club where he found success after failed stints with Chilean club Magallanes and Mexican Liga MX side Necaxa. Allende scored 16 goals and provided 23 assists in 87 appearances over three seasons for Torque, leading to his first senior national team call up for a domestic-based Chilean national team in a 1-0 December 2021 friendly victory against El Salvador.
Allende was a star for the Chile under-17 national team, where he scored two goals in four games when the country hosted the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The attacker signed at Mexican top division side Necaxa for a $1.02 million fee but failed to make an impact during his time there before becoming a star in Uruguayan football. Big things will be expected of Allende at Sundowns, who will expect the playmaker to deliver in the CAF Champions League as well as DStv Premiership play.
