It was a celebratory occasion for African football with the return of the CAF Awards for the first time since 2019 on Thursday. Accolades were handed out to the best and most successful performers on the continent in Rabat, Morocco as CAF prepared for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations final. Senegal and Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mané took home the Men’s Player of the Year while FC Barcelona Femení and Nigeria striker Asisat Oshoala once again captured the Women’s Player of the Year. The success of Senegalese football in the past year was not overlooked with the Senegal men’s side winning the CAF National Team of the Year as manager Aliou Cissé won Coach of the Year. Ghana’s Evelyn Badu won two awards for her efforts with the Ghana women’s national side and Sekondi Hassacas Ladies’ run to the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League final.
