Saturday was the culmination of the yearly special holiday known as “Wiki Ya Mwananchi” (Citizen’s Week) for supporters of Tanzanian giants Young Africans with a featured special occasion friendly match. Last season the match saw Yanga take on Ugandan champions Vipers SC and this year South African club Kaizer Chiefs were the honored guests as the hosts won 1-0.
Supporters for both teams were eager to see new signings tested and the starting eleven of the hosts led by new head coach Miguel Gamondi featured Congolese addition Max Nzengeli as well as former Marumo Gallants player Mahlatse Makudubela. Kaizer Chiefs left out star playmaker Keagan Dolly and new striker signing Ranga Chivaviro but new acquisitions Tebogo Potsane, Nduduzi Mdantshane, Pule Mmodi, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Venezuelan Edson Castillo were involved.
After both teams exchanged opportunities in an even first half the lone goal of the match came just before halftime. New signing Nzengeli, acquired from Congolese club AS Maniema Union, lifted a clever through pass to find the run of Kennedy Musonda and the speedy Zambian produced a slick chipped finish over an onrushing Itumelang Khune in the Kaizer Chiefs goal.
