In an expected development, Augustine Eguavoen is out as Nigeria manager along with his assistants following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Eguavoen, who was both Nigeria manager and technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), ended his third spell as coach with a crushing defeat to rivals Ghana on away goals after a 1-1 second leg draw in Abuja on Tuesday.
The 56-year-old is reportedly expected to keep his role as technical director but it appears that the NFF and the Nigerian public will be taking a deep look into what went wrong. The Senate of Nigeria announced its intention to investigate what went wrong with early accusations that board room politics contributed to the team’s underperformance.
