NPFL: Rivers United maintain four point lead at top of the log

Rivers United wrapped up Matchday 23 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with an important 2-0 victory over an underachieving Enyimba International side on Monday, keeping the Pride of Rivers State in first place at the top of the table. A penalty kick goal from Ishaq Rafiu Kayode gave Rivers the lead in the 21st minute for the 21-year-old’s twelfth goal of the season before Chiamaka Madu doubled the lead in the 34th minute by finishing following a penalty box scramble.

The win stretches the league leaders’ unbeaten streak to twelve games and puts them four points ahead of Plateau United, who defeated MFM FC 2-0 on Sunday thanks to two first half goals. At this point the race for the title looks to be a two team race with Plateau holding a ten-point lead over Rangers International for second place. Rangers failed to earn three points on Saturday, slumping to a 0-0 home draw against Sunshine Stars.
