Petro de Luanda surge back for road victory, extend Girabola lead to eight points

Petro de Luanda’s unstoppable league form continued on Saturday with a 3-1 road victory for Os Petroliferos over CD Lunda Sul. The current CAF Champions League semifinalists fell behind early in Saurimo when Lunda Sul’s Jaime headed in an excellent cross to put the hosts up in the 12th minute. However, Petro responded soon after when center back Mindinho headed home in the 24th minute.

Just after 32 minutes, extended pressure from the favorites saw a cross from the right flank that Lunda Sul goalkeeper Roxana failed to handle, spilling the ball into his own goal to put Petro up. Just before halftime the visitors moved out of reach when Jaredi curled in a beauty of a free kick from outside the box that bounced off the crossbar and just beyond the goal line before coming back out.

Petro are eight points clear of second placed Sagrada Esperança with five games remaining, having played one less match than last season’s champions. Highlights from Saturday’s victory are below following a report from Jornal de Angola.
