Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna is confident of a good show during the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament which has been postponed to August, 2025.
The East African nation were drawn in Group A alongside two-time winners Morocco and DR Congo, as well as Angola and Zambia, in a pool packed with past champions and quality teams during the event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday.
Speaking on learning of the draw, Muguna, who plays for Kenya Police FC in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League maintained their readiness to make Kenyans proud.
Muguna further downplayed the “group of death” label, emphasizing Kenya’s readiness to compete and showcasing faith in coach Francis Kimanzi's technical bench.
The former Gor Mahia player welcomed the tournament's postponement to August 2025, seeing it as an opportunity for better preparation, and expressed his commitment to leading Kenya to its first major continental silverware.
“It is a kind group, not a bad one, and I know we will be playing at home and will enjoy the support of the fans, we are ready and no one will make us while playing at home,” Muguna told Pan-Africa Football.
“Kenya is a country with great players, we have a crop of young players also coming up so it doesn’t matter who will be in the team for CHAN, it doesn’t matter the age, it doesn’t matter if you have been there for long time, one thing I know we are all ready to represent the country and make them proud and every player will come out to fight for the country.
“Playing the tournament at home is something very crucial because we will playing infront of our fans, our family and we all know what is at stake, it is something we will give our all, we will go out and fight for our country.”
On the postponement of the tournament, Muguna said: “It is a blessing for us because we now have more time to prepare and get ready.”
The tournament, which earlier on was scheduled for February, features national teams consisting of players currently playing in their respective local leagues.
