2024 CHAN: Kenya proud to co-host historical tournament – says FKF boss Mohammed

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has revealed the decision to postpone the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament from February to August presents the host nations with humble time to get ready for the tournament.


The draw of the tournament was held on Wednesday with Kenya, Kenya who were the seeds as hosts in Group A were drawn with two-time winners Morocco and DR Congo, as well as Angola and Zambia, in a pool packed with past champions and quality teams.


“We had the honour of hosting the CHAN 2024 draw here in Nairobi, as we officially began the journey towards a tournament that celebrates African football. Kenya is proud to co-host this historic event alongside our neighbours Tanzania and Uganda, a partnership that reflects the unity and shared passion for the game in our region,’ Mohammed told Pan-Africa Football.


“The decision to move CHAN 2024 to August presents a unique opportunity for East Africa to prepare extensively, ensuring our infrastructure meets the highest standards. This is not just about hosting a tournament - it’s about building a lasting legacy for football in our region.


“I extend my gratitude to CAF for their trust, FIFA for their continued support through initiatives like FIFA Forward, and our partners in Tanzania and Uganda for their collaboration. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a tournament that will inspire generations and showcase the best of African talent.


“The road to CHAN 2024 begins now, and I am confident we will deliver an unforgettable event. Let’s work together to elevate football in East Africa and beyond!”


The draw was conducted with the assistance of three East African football legends, Uganda’s Hassan Wasswa, Mrisho Ngasa of Tanzania and Kenya’s McDonald Mariga, who added even more star quality to the night.


GROUP A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia

GROUP B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic

GROUP C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2

GROUP D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
