Uganda head coach Paul Put has stated they are focused on building a strong team for the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament as they prepare to face Burundi in the second leg of the qualifiers at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo on Sunday.

The Cranes will head into the game having won the first leg 1-0 courtesy of Isaac Ogwang. Uganda have already qualified for the tournament reserved for players, who feature in their respective local leagues by virtue of being the hosts.

Speaking ahead of the game against the Swallows, Put admitted to making minimal changes to the squad to foster cohesion and strong partnerships among the players.

“We are analysing the CHAN team, and after assessing the first game, we identified areas that need improvement to ensure better performance moving forward. If we make too many changes, we may lose the opportunity to gauge the team’s true competitiveness. While some adjustments will be made,” said Put as quoted by FUFA website.

Put continued: “Ugandans have always been incredible supporters of the Cranes, and I believe they will show the same enthusiasm this time against Burundi. These are their boys, and they need their unwavering support.

“Thank you, Ugandans, for the tremendous support that contributed to the team’s success. You created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, and we look forward to experiencing the same energy come 2025.”

The CHAN tournament will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
