Cameroon head coach Marc Peter Brys blamed the team’s 0-0 draw against Namibia in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture to fatigue.
The Indomitable Lions failed to break down the resilient Brave Warriors as they settled for a drab draw in the Group J fixture at Orlando Stadium in South Africa on Wednesday.
Speaking after the game, the Belgian tactician blamed missing three key players, fatigue and Namibia's improved display for the outcome but promised to end their campaign with a win against Zimbabwe.
“We came into the game suffering with three injuries but I don’t want to use it as an excuse for the outcome, if I have to use an excuse is the way we did our preparations, totally we trained only once on a poor field with eleven players,” Peter Brys told reporters after the matchday five fixture.
“We lost a lot of time, we have a flight from Yaounde to here and it took 18 hours and we spent most of our time either in the airport outside not playing (or training) so these is not possible anymore, it is an acceptable.
“If I come to the game (against Namibia), the important thing that I saw was first half we were very sharp ahead of our opponents, but fatigue took control of the players and in the last 20 minutes we started to give the ball away.
“We have to be happy with a point, Namibia had more chances, more than 100 percent chances than us, but I am proud of the group but if you come into a game after going through many difficulties (like we did) and coming out with a point from such a game then you must have a lot of respect for my players.”
Peter Brys discussed their next fixture against Zimbabwe saying they will fight to win the game. “All we need now is to adapt after returning home and recover for the next game against Zimbabwe. For sure we want to win every game and we will try to win against Zimbabwe,” he said.
Following the draw, Cameroon, who have already qualified for the AFCON, top the group with 11 points, followed by Zimbabwe, who have eight while Kenya are third with four points.
Zimbabwe and Kenya will face off on Friday at Peper Makoba Stadium with the Warriors seeking to seal a ticket to the tournament to be held in Morocco.
