Namibia coach Collin Benjamin believes his side deserved to get maximum points from their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture against Cameroon at Orlando Stadium in South Africa on Wednesday.

The Brave Warriors snatched their first point of the campaign following a 0-0 draw against the Indomitable Lions, who have already qualified for the 35th edition of the biennial African football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“This game was not far from the four we have previously played, our intention was always to win, our intention was always to qualify but it was not to be but for this particular game against Cameroon, the morale the energy, the discipline from my team was really intact,” Benjamin told reporters after the game.

“I think we made it difficult for Cameroon which is obviously a very good team to find spaces behind us and at the same time being disciplined like that we could also create a few chances and in the end it is 0-0, a draw, and I think it is a deserved result for both teams. I congratulate Cameroon obviously for their qualification for the AFCON and wish them all the best.”

On what the point means for Namibia, Benjamin said: “I think obviously getting out of the game and you have something in the hand it is always positive, it is good for the morale, for the confidence of the boys especially going into the next game.

“I am honestly so convinced we did have a good campaign because against Cameroon the team was very energetic, but the difference is today we only came out with a draw and the other opening four games we lost, but I think the energy, the hunger, the discipline from my team, was throughout only that the result was different.

Benjamin promised to go all out and beat Kenya in their final group fixture.

“I think we take a point from this game and then regenerate and on Tuesday we want to go full out against Kenya. We definitely don’t want to end the campaign with one point, I think the growth of us as Namibia should be to play and get good results, so that we can grow and the boys can grow,” concluded Benjamin.

The Brave Warriors will wind up their group campaign against Kenya on Tuesday, November 19 at Peter Makoba Stadium.
