Former Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo has tipped the Super Eagles to easily qualify from their group during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Eagles were drawn in Group C and will lock horns against Tunisia and the East African duo of Uganda and Tanzania. According to Yobo, who played for Everton in the Premier League, the Super Eagles will have no problem making it out of the group.
“We have a good young crop and a new generation of players that have been together for a long time, so I don’t think that understanding is a problem for them,” Yobo said at the draw in Rabat as quoted by the Punch.
“We have shown that at the last AFCON, we got the final; we were very unlucky not to have won so if we can build on that momentum and take it a bit further, we can get to the final and hopefully win it this time.
“In the Super Eagles, we never have problems making it out of the groups so I’m not really bothered about it. We can meet the hosts in the knockout round but anybody can go home from there.”
Hosts Morocco headlined Group A and will take on Mali, Zambia and Comoros while record seven-time winners Egypt will face a trio of Southern African teams in Group B in the form of last year’s bronze medalists South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe.
The 2021 champions Senegal will face Democratic Republic of Congo, Benin and Botswana in Group D. Algeria, winners in 2019, come up against Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan in Group E while defending champions Ivory Coast will battle old rivals and five-time winners Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique in Group F.
