Tanzania striker Simon Msuva says the Taifa Stars have shifted their full focus to the final game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers when they hist Guinea at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Tuesday, November 19.
Taifa Stars kept alive their qualification hopes following a convincing 2-0 victory against Ethiopia in their matchday five fixture of Group H at Stade des Martyrs on Saturday. Msuva scored the opener for Taifa Stars in the 15th minute before Festus Salum doubled their lead in the 31st minute.
The win enabled Tanzania to move to seven points in third place but two less second placed Guinea, who defeated DR Congo 1-0 in the other group match on Friday. While Congo have already qualified as they have 12 points, the battle for the remaining slot will be between Tanzania and Guinea.
Should Tanzania win at home, they will seal their place in the 35th edition of the African tournament to be held in Morocco from January.
“We had a good game against Ethiopia and a fantastic away win but our focus now has shifted to the next and final game against Guinea, we want to do a good job at home, we have one game to play and the game will be very significant for us, because if we win, we qualify for the AFCON,” said Msuva after the game.
“I don’t look at myself as Msuiva for scoring, I am looking at how we will play our next game, we need a win, we will do our best, all our matches we play as a final, we know Guinea will not be easy, but we are focused to get the three points in the game.”
Msuva had a message to the fans: “I want to ask Tanzania fans to stay calm and rally behind us, we want to say we will not disappoint them, we know what is at stake and we will strive to get a win, and playing at home means we need their support, we started together with them and now we need them to finish the job back home.”
So far, Tanzania have two wins in the qualifiers having defeated Guinea 2-1 away in the first round meeting.
