Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has talked about his experience from international duty with the senior national team.

Asare, alongside Nation FC defender Razak Simpson and Medeama left-back, Kamaradini Mamudu were the only local players invited into the Black Stars 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March.

The former Great Olympics shot stopper was selected for the post ahead of long term number one, Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott going on to keep clean sheets where Ghana pummeled Chad 5-0 in Accra before nailing Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco in games five and six respectively.

In an interview with Hearts TV, Asare discussed the lessons he has learnt from the two important games that propelled the four time African champions into the top of Group I on 15 points from six games.

“The changes it has brought my career is that, club football is different from national team football. I have the confidence that if I travel abroad to play, I will be able to fit in because I have seen the difference. You need fit into wherever you are taken.

The 32-year-old has opened up on how the national team duties will help his club in the ongoing league season.

“What I will tell my colleagues is that, we should attach seriousness to training and league games because the national team is not a child’s play and the home based players are not different from the foreign based. The key thing I learnt is that punctuality and self-discipline is very important.” Benjamin Asare told Hearts TV.

Benjamin Asare has made 19 league appearances for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners, keeping 12 clean sheets with eight goals conceded this season.
