2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying: Uganda Cranes squad complete as Watenga, Awany join camp in Egypt

Uganda Cranes' preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers are in full gear following the arrival of goalkeeper Isima Watenga and defender Timothy Awany at the team's training camp in Egypt.


Watenga, who plays for South African side Golden Arrows and Awany, a key figure at Israeli club Ashdod, have now linked up with the rest of the squad.

Their arrival ensures a full house as Uganda finalizes preparations for the crucial clash against Mozambique.


Head coach Paul Put’s team is set to face Mozambique on Thursday, March 19, at Cairo International Stadium at 4 PM before returning home to host Guinea on Tuesday next week at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.


The local-based contingent arrived in Egypt on Saturday and settled in at Tolip Gardens Hotel, where they were later joined by their foreign-based teammates.


The foreign-based players in camp include Elio Capradossi (AS Citadella, Italy), Calvin Kabuye (Mjällby AIF, Sweden), Rogers Mato (FK Vardar, North Macedonia), Aziizi Kayondo (Slovan Liberec, Czech Republic), Hakim Kiwanuka (APR FC, Rwanda), Denis Omedi (APR FC, Rwanda), Isaac Muleme (Viktoria Zizkov, Czech Republic), Bevis Mugabi (Anorthosis Famagusta, Cyprus), Sibbick Toby (Wigan Athletic, England), Kenneth Semakula (Club Africain, Tunisia), Steven Mukwala (Simba SC, Tanzania), Muhammad Shaban (Al Anwar, Libya), Bwomono Elvis (St. Mirren, Scotland), Alionzi Nafian (Mechal, Ethiopia), Khalid Aucho (Young Africans, Tanzania) and Travis Mutyaba (Bordeaux, France).
