South Africa forward Percy Tau has celebrated his latest landmark with Bafana Bafana by promising to deliver more for the national team.

The 30-year-old, who features for Qatar Stars League side Qatar SC, became the 36th player to reach the 50-cap milestone for South Africa after he played in Bafana Bafana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Benin in Abidjan on Tuesday.

Prior to the Benin fixture, the former Al Ahly player had competed in his first game for South Africa nine months ago against Lesotho in Polokwane and drew praise from coach Hugo Broos for his efforts in the 2-0 win, which put the team on top of the Group C standings in their bid to qualify for the global competition.

Speaking on his latest achievement, Tau wrote on his social media accounts: “What an incredible journey it has been! From the first call-up to the 50th appearance, it has been an absolute honour to wear Bafana Bafana colours.

“Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and most importantly the fans who’ve supported me every step of the way. Here’s to many more.”

Neil Tovey was the first player to reach 50 caps for Bafanas with 34 players following him, the latest being current South Africa captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
