Former Ghana captains Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah have urged the playing body to give their all in match day five of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar.
The four-time African kings have a date against the Island nation in match day six on Monday, March 24 in Morocco after taming Chad by 5-0 in fixture five at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21.
Asamoah Gyan, who is Africa’s top scorer at the FIFA World Cup with six goals, calls for commitment from the players ahead of the game.
“Let’s go one hundred percent guys, I want Ghanaians to see you guys heckling and fighting and the result will come by itself, that’s all I want from you guys. We have great player, the talent and everything is there, that commitment, a bit, small push, we will get there.
“Me and my colleagues, the technical team have confidence in you guys if not we won’t be here but the reason why we are here is just to push you just a bit to make sure you get there, that’s what we want.
“Let’s go for the kill, let’s go for the win, make sure we don’t concede, if we don’t concede it’s one point, if we win it’s three points and we are thee and then everybody can ease the pressure.” Asamoah Gyan said during an interaction with the players in camp.
Stephen Appiah was one of the most successful skippers who led the Black Stars to major tournaments and he has called on the players to treat the Madagascar encounter with the utmost seriousness.
“You know that, the game we played against Chad is going to be different from the one we are going to play against Madagascar because they have a different style of play, they will come with different strength so it’s not going to be the same.
“So you people should tune your mind towards the game, we are talking about the World Cup. Most of you were in Qatar [and] after the World Cup you went to your clubs and you were different.
“Were all experienced it in 2006, even those who didn’t play, those who were on the bench, after the World Cup they all got contracts in Europe so those who are playing in Europe, you sacrifice for those who are playing in Ghana.
“We believe in you and we know that you guys are going to do it.”
Ghana are top of Group I with 12 points, two points ahead of Madagascar with Comoros on nine in 3rd. Mali sit fourth on 8 points and Central Africa are 5th with four points and Chad bottom without a point.
