Guinea Bissau head coach Luís Boa Morte said his charges still believe they can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they prepare to face Group A second place side Burkina Faso. The two West African nations will clash at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium later today.

The Djurtus lost 3-1 on Thursday to Sierra Leone on matchday five. Former Portugal national team player Boa Morte said their plan is unchanged after suffering another loss:

“The goal remains the same, to qualify for the finals, but we must also be aware that things don’t always happen the way we want them to. We have to know and understand what it is, when it is, and how the team is doing. I’m not making excuses, because in football everyone wants the three points and some doubt the draw, but nobody wants to lose.”

Pressure is mounting on the former Fulham assistant manager after a serious of unfavorable results for Guinea Bissau. Ahead of the Burkina Faso encounter, Boa Morte said he does not feel that he is under pressure. Guinea Bissau sit fourth with six points, two points adrift of Burkina Faso.
