Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed belief that the Black Stars big win against Chad has set the tone for other positive results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana humbled their West African counterparts by 5-0 in match day five at a fully packed Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening, sending the four time African champions top of Group I
Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, was seen at the team’s training grounds rallying support for the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter finalists ahead of the Chad match which left many football fans giving positive reviews about his action.
The 39-year-old, whose six goals make him Africa’s all-time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup, shared a few words after the game against the bottom placed nation.
“This is just the beginning, the most important thing is that we have the tree points. We just qualify for the World Cup, the World Cup is our motive and so we just take every game by game and we see what happens.
“The most important thing is Ghanaians are happy with the result and we keep on moving.” Asamoah Gyan told GH Hyper.
The Black Stars now sit top of group I with 12 points from five matches with Madagascar following in second on 10 points and Comoros sitting third on nine after they lost 3-0 against Mali who remain in fourth on eight points.
Central Africa are in fifth on the log with four points. Ghana’s next game will be away to second placed Madagascar in Morocco on match day six on Monday, March 24.
