The Stallions broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Josué Tiendrébéogo's deflected shot. Veteran winger Bertrand Traoré doubled the lead with a calm finish in the 33th minute. Djibouti came close to pull one back through Mouad Mahamed’s close strike.

The visitors quickly extended their lead to three soon after the resumption. Mohamed Zougrana scored on his national team debut on an assist from Tiendébéogo before Lassina Traoré put the final nail to the coffin in the 67th minute with a cool finish.

Djibouti managed to get a consolation goal in the dying moments of the game when Samuel Akinbinu kept calm to convert a penalty kick.
