Head coach of Ghana Otto Addo has reacted to the Black Stars massive victory against Chad in match day five of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The four time African champions pummeled their West African counterparts by 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to go top of Group I.

The Black Stars wasted no time, with Semenyo opening the scoring in just the second minute. Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also got on the scoresheet in a dominant display.

Having secured the top spot in the group, coach Otto Addo insists that his side must do everything to hold onto it. “It's always easier when you’re on top. We want to stay there. We will try to do everything to beat Madagascar on Monday to keep the top spot,” the Ghana coach stressed.

Forward Antoine Semenyo believes Ghana’s five-goal victory over Chad will boost the team’s confidence in upcoming matches.

The Black Stars had struggled in front of goal, scoring only three times in their last six games, a poor run that led to their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I feel like we’ve got goal scorers in the team. We just need to get into the right positions, and we’ve done that today. Scoring five goals is a confidence booster,” Semenyo said after the match.

“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game,” he said after the game.

“I felt like, during this international break, I needed to get a goal. I’m not going to say there is any pressure.”

The forward last scored for the Black Stars in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

Otto Addo’s side now shifts focus to a crucial clash against Madagascar on Monday, March 24 where they will aim to build on this momentum.
