Namibian coach Collin Benjamin has sung the praise of Deon Hotto after his performance during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures held during the FIFA international break.
The Brave Warriors were involved in two crucial Group H qualifiers, winning the first one 1-0 against Malawi at Bingu National Stadium before drawing 1-1 against Equatorial Guinea away at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Hotto, who features for Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership, started in the fixture against the Flames before he was withdrawn and was in action for the entire game as Peter Shalulile scored to help the Brave Warriors pick a draw against Equatorial Guinea.
“Do you know that I don’t coach Deon?” he told the media as quoted by idiskitimes. “I can’t tell Deon how to shoot goals or how to cross. We give Deon a structure within the team, we give him the positions that we need to get in."
“And the intelligence and the experience that he brings, he finds his players and he breaks lines. I can play Deon on the left wing-back, play him at left-back at the right midfield, I can play him between the 10, he never complains."
“And the attitude of these guys and the patriotism that they show towards their country is just second to none. And we as Namibia are just really happy to have them, they are an inspiration, not only to their families, they are an inspiration to young and up-coming kids coming in and wishing all the best and he should stay healthy and score goals.”
The four points helped Namibia to move second in the group with 12 points, four less than leaders Tunisia, while Liberia jumped to third on 10 points and Equatorial Guinea remained fourth with seven points.
