Young Ghana midfielder, Lawrence Agyekum has described his first appearance for the senior national team as “an honour and dream come true.”

The 21-year-old was called up for the first time to replace injured AJ Auxerre midfielder, Elisha Owusu for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

He went on to make his debut for the four time African champions in their 5-0 victory over Chad in match day five of the qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21.

The Cercle Brugge midfielder says it’s “an honor and a dream come true” to have made his debut for the Black Stars after replacing Arsenal man, Thomas Partey on the 83rd minute.

“Grateful to God for making it possible to make my debut with the Black Stars. It’s a great honor and a dream come true,” he wrote on X.

Agyekum is on-loan from Austria giants, Red Bull Salzburg and has made 27 league appearances in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

The Black Stars take on Madagascar in the sixth round of the qualifiers on Monday night at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco.

Ghana sit top of Group I with 12 points, Madagascar occupies second spot with 10 points, just two behind the Black Stars, making the upcoming clash a difficult one.
