Ghana president, H E John Dramani Mahama visited the senior national men’s team at training ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad.

The Black Stars, faced with a must win situation will host Chad on Friday March 21 in match day five of the qualifiers in a bid increase the chance of securing an automatic ticket to USA, Canada and Mexico.

Mahama, whose National Democratic Congress (NDC) recorded a landslide victory over the opposition New Patriotic Part (NPP) in the December elections, shared some words with the team.

“Ghanaians have had their hearts broken by the fact that we didn’t qualify for the AFCON but even when we qualify for the AFCON we crushed out very early the last time and so we haven’t given up on you."

The president added: “We still believe that the Black Stars can find this glory again and it’s dependent on you and the management committee."

H E John Dramani Mahama continued: “We can’t come and play the football, we can make the resources available. We can come to the stadium and cheer you on but eventually the goals will come from these feet that are right here."

He went on saying: “And so it takes sacrifice, it takes strength, we all like to watch you when you play for your teams and we expect that you bring some of that dedication to the national team."

He indicated: “Playing for the national team is not as lucrative as your individual teams but still that sense of pride and patriotism that your nation has gone to the World Cup, it’s something that is worth dying for, so before you start the qualifiers, let’s put the AFCON debacle behind us and let’s look forward and know that we can redeem ourselves.”

The four time African champions share nine points in group I with Madagascar climbing into first after their 4-1 whitewashing of Central Africa Republic on Wednesday match 19.

The Black Stars need to beat Chad in Accra on March 21 and as well find a way to stop Madagascar in Morocco in the match day six on March 24.
