
Libya’s assistant coach and current acting head coach, Abu Bakr Al-Harak, has raised the stakes ahead of his team’s clash against Cameroon in the sixth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Libya is set to face Cameroon on Tuesday at 19:00 GMT in Cameroon.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Al-Harak, as quoted by Alwasat, indicated to Libya’s intention to compete for qualification, saying:
“The Cameroonian national team is a historic side, having participated in the World Cup eight times and possessing highly talented players. However, we have come here to challenge them for a qualification spot.”
He added:
“We are determined to deliver an excellent performance, maintaining high focus from the start. Hopefully, we can surprise Cameroon and return home with a positive result.”
Al-Harak concluded by highlighting the good relationship between the Libyan and Cameroonian football federations, saying:
“The Libyan and Cameroonian federations share a good relationship. Historically, our matches have always been clean and free of controversies.”
Al-Harak is leading Libya for the fifth and sixth rounds of the qualifiers under the supervision of newly appointed Senegalese head coach Aliou Cissé. However, due to time constraints, Cissé has not yet taken charge of the matches.
