Nigeria national team head coach Eric Chelle has talked tough ahead of their upcoming match against Rwanda from 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Friday.

The former Mali coach replaced ex-Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen who steered the three-time African champions to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Chelle’s first major task is to lead the 2024 AFCON runners up in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers away to Rwanda on March 21.

With their ticket to the Mundial to be hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico hanging by a thin thread, Chelle is focused on approaching the game at the Amahoro Stadium in the Rwandan capital of Kigali with pure tactical prowess.

The 47-year-old reacted to a question by popular Nigeria journalist Osasu Obayiuwana as to how the encounter in Kigali will look like.

“Well, I can assure you the Chelle sauce will be rich, spicy, and full of passion! We’re coming to Kigali with focus, determination, and the hunger to deliver a performance that truly represents Nigeria. Expect a well-balanced recipe of discipline, teamwork, and attacking football. Let’s get cooking!" Chelle responded.

The Super Eagles have made a winless start in World Cup qualifying, drawing three of their first four games in Group C.

They are four points behind group leaders Rwanda, and will travel to Kigali to face the Amavubi in March 21 before hosting bottom side Zimbabwe in the next round of matches in March 24.
