Former Nigeria international, Jonathan Akpoborie has called on all Nigerians to manage their expectations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.

The Super Eagles face a mountainous task in a bid to qualify for the mundial in Mexico, Canada and USA next year.

The three time African champions go into the qualifiers on March 21 away to group leaders, Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium before hosting the Warriors of Zimbabwe four days later at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Akpoborie, 56 in an interview with Brila FM implored everybody to manage the expectations placed on the team.

“Let us try to manage expectations. It is not necessary for us to be spectacular, because if it does not happen that way, people will be let down.”

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with three points from four games and will need a strong performance in these qualifiers to boost their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
