Sudan national team head coach James Kwesi Appiah has remained confident of upsetting ‘big team’ Senegal in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya on Saturday.

The Falcons of Jediane will head into the Group B fixture sitting at the top of the pile with 10 points from four matches and they are still unbeaten in the group so far.

Sudan have won three matches and drawn one, while the Lions of Teranga are lying third with eight points having won two matches, drawn two and just like their East African opponents, they are yet to lose a game.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Appiah stressed the need of Sudanese people in Libya to turn out in large numbers and support the team in their quest to qualify for their first-ever World Cup.

“It is not going to be easy because Senegal is a very big team, but we are going to also make sure we do our best, to make sure we beat them so as to qualify for the World Cup,” said Appiah.

“We have been in Libya, Benghazi for the last three, to four days, and our training has been going on very well, everyone is full fit, we don’t have any injury concerns and we hope that the people, Sudanese in Libya and all Libyans will come to the stadium, flood the stadium and give us the support.

“These prayer period, we want all Sudanese to pray for the team, so that for the first time, Sudan can qualify for the World Cup.”

A win for the Falcons of Jediane will see them move three points clear ahead of second-placed DR Congo, who edged out South Sudan 1-0 in their matchday five fixture at Stade des Martyrs on Friday.
