The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received backing from Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers despite the 27-year-old failing to make coach Eric Chelle’s final squad.
The three time African champions are on the edge ahead of their two games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. The 2024 AFCON runners-up are 5th on the qualifying table with 3 from four matches played and will be at the Amahoro Stadium against leaders, Rwanda on March 21.
They will return home at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium for the second game on March 25th against The Warriors of Zimbabwe in a bid to secure a ticket for the World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico next year.
Ejuke, who recently returned from injury, was named in Nigeria’s 39-man provisional squad but did not make the final 23-player list selected by head coach Eric Chelle.
Despite missing out, Ejuke remains hopeful about Nigeria’s chances and is backing his teammates to secure maximum points in both fixtures.
“We have a lot of players in Nigeria, and believe me, at the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision, and he knows what he’s doing,” Ejuke told Lacolina de Nervion.
“So, for me, if I get the opportunity to go there, I’ll always be happy to represent my country. I wish the boys the best and, obviously, I’ll be watching as well, and I hope they win the matches.”
Nigeria sits third in Group C with three points from four games and will need a strong performance in these qualifiers to boost their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
