Somalia Football Federation (SFF) has named Yusuf Ali Nur as the new head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier encounters. The move came after SFF parted ways with Moroccan coach Rachid Lousteque.
Lousteque led the Oceans Stars for two seasons. Ali Nur now replaces Lousteque as the national team lock horns against Guinea and Botswana. SFF opted to name a local coach following the recent superb form of the U17 national side that qualified for the African U17 Cup of Nations.
Ali Nur spent the large part of his coaching career in the Somali Premier League. He led SPL side Dekedda Sports Club to three league titles. Ali Nur is expected to prepare the national side to get at least a point in the next qualifying games.
Somalia are last in Group G after losing four games in a row. The lowly ranked side conceded nine goals thus far in the campaign.
